What this site does not do

This site is hand-built, static, and deliberately simple. It does not run advertising trackers, does not use third-party analytics scripts, and does not set cookies for tracking or profiling. There is no login, no account creation, and no form on the site that stores your details in a database we hold.

What we collect, and why

If you email us. Writing to steve@barkingcat.ai gives us your email address, whatever name or signature you include, and the content of your message. We use this to respond to you and, where a commercial conversation follows, to progress it. The legal basis is legitimate interest, ours in responding to enquiries, and yours in reaching us.

If you book a conversation. The “Book the conversation” link on this site takes you to a Google Calendar booking page. Any name, email address, and meeting details you enter there are collected and processed by Google, under Google’s own privacy policy, not this one. We receive the booking details Google passes to us (name, email, and the time you selected) in order to hold the meeting.

Standard hosting logs. The site is hosted on Netlify. Like any web host, Netlify’s infrastructure records basic technical information for every visit, for example your IP address, browser type, and the page requested, for security and performance purposes. We do not access this data to identify individual visitors, and we do not combine it with any other information about you.

Cookies

This site does not set cookies for advertising, tracking, or analytics. If our hosting provider sets a strictly necessary technical cookie to serve the site correctly, no consent banner is required for it under UK law, and no such cookie is used to identify or track you across visits.

Third parties

Personal data may pass through the following third parties in the course of running this site:

Neither is instructed to use your data for their own marketing purposes on our behalf.

International transfers

Google and Netlify may process data outside the UK and European Economic Area. Both provide standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards for international transfers as part of their own compliance frameworks.

How long we keep data

Email correspondence is kept for as long as it remains relevant to an ongoing or potential piece of work, and is deleted or archived when it no longer is. Booking details are retained only as long as needed to arrange and hold the meeting.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to ask us:

To exercise any of these, email steve@barkingcat.ai. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

If how this site handles personal data changes, for example if a form, analytics tool, or new booking system is added, this page will be updated and the date at the top revised accordingly.
