Agentic commerce
Definition
Commerce in which an AI agent acting for the customer finds the product, compares the options and may complete the purchase, the customer having set the brief rather than done the shopping. The retailer’s site, feeds and product data are read by software as well as by people, and a business that cannot present its offer clearly to a machine is making itself harder to choose.
Field note
Agentic commerce is the idea of an AI agent shopping online with your payment details, not dissimilar to marriage.
Board question
Can an agent find, read and buy from our site today, and who in the business has tried?
