AI Overviews
Definition
The AI-written summary Google places above the search results, answering the query directly from sources it selects. Some customers get enough of an answer without clicking; others follow the cited links to investigate or buy. Retailers appear in it as cited sources or not at all.
Field note
AI Overviews are what Google shows instead of you. Expect an invoice in the near future.
Board question
Which of our category queries now produce an Overview, how often are our pages cited in it, and what has happened to clicks and revenue on those queries?
Applied through
The Agentic lens of the AI Diagnostic; GEO is the discipline of being the source the Overview draws on.
