PIM. Product information management
Definition
Product information management: a system that holds one record per product, with its attributes, descriptions, imagery and channel-specific variants, and feeds it to the website, marketplaces, print and wholesale so that every channel sells the same product the same way. Bought to replace the spreadsheet that did this before, badly.
Field note
PIM is an expensive replacement for spreadsheets that feeds on spreadsheets to produce spreadsheets.
Board question
How many people does it take to get a new product live across all channels, and how many days after the stock lands?
Applied through
Operational Excellence in the Cat’s Whiskers, internally ready before externally funded; the Data foundation of the AI Diagnostic, because a PIM full of half-completed attributes is the reason the AI project stalls at month three.
